The Courage to Take the Next Step
Change is inevitable. Yet, strangely, many of us spend our lives trying to avoid it.
We build a comfortable little cocoon around ourselves—a familiar job, familiar routines, familiar people, familiar ways of thinking. The cocoon feels safe. But what feels like security today can quietly become stagnation tomorrow.
Growth demands movement.
Sometimes that movement requires courage—the courage to leave what is comfortable, to try something uncertain, to start again, or simply to take a step without knowing exactly where it will lead.
Your step may turn out to be right. It may turn out to be wrong. But you will never know unless you take it.
There is perhaps no such thing as a completely right or completely wrong decision. There are decisions, experiences, consequences, lessons, and new directions. A decision that looks like a mistake today may become the very experience that prepares you for something much greater tomorrow.
The real mistake is often not choosing wrongly, but never choosing at all.
Life and careers rarely follow a perfectly planned road. Sometimes you have to take your chances, learn as you go, correct your course, and keep moving. You may try several things before discovering the one that truly belongs to you.
So keep searching.
Keep experimenting. Keep learning. Keep moving.
Move until you find that one thing that either lets you sleep at complete peace, because you know you are exactly where you should be—or makes you so excited that you don't sleep at all, because you cannot wait to see what tomorrow brings.
Both are signs that you have found something meaningful.
But don't take risks simply for the sake of taking risks. Take your chances when something inside you tells you that it is time to move. Listen to that feeling. Think carefully, accept the possibility of failure, and then—if it still feels worth pursuing—take the step.
Because sometimes the door to the life you want does not open until you have the courage to knock.
